Seasonal Naturalist/Deckhand

Looking for an exciting new adventure? Experience Alaska Tours (EAT) is seeking a deckhand to help lead adventurous tours along the George Inlet on our custom-built Benz Monohull Boats. You will be part of a two-person team including yourself and the captain. As the naturalist, you will greet guests, interact with them and the wildlife along the tour, narrate and teach guests the history of Alaska, and share your love of adventure with all onboard.

After hours or on your day off, you will have access to fishing gear, kayaks, a personal-sized boat, and a campfire area! Your Role:

As a deckhand, you will provide a detailed and energetic tour showing guests the beautiful and historic sights along the George Inlet waterway. You will also be handling local wildlife, pulling up crab pots, and walking guests through how to safely handle Dungeness Crab.

Naturalist and deckhand experience is *not* required! We provide in-depth training on ship maintenance, safety, and presentation skills here on site. Come ready to work and learn and we’ll take care of the rest.

Duties Include:

  • Maintaining supply of engine oil, fuel additives, and oil filters for vessels (will train).
  • Inspecting and assuring safety and housekeeping of the docks and grounds.
  • Assisting guests during loading and unloading of the vessel for safety.
  • Greeting guests and assisting with their transfer safely onto the boats.
  • Maintaining radio contact with other key staff to promote tour excellence.
  • Providing a professionally narrated tour, utilizing the provided EAT script. Must pass training with EAT experienced staff to handle tour independently.
  • Pulling up crab pots from up to 90 feet deep water with the assistance of a pulley.
  • Maintain a friendly and bright atmosphere for all guests.
  • Assist with dishwashing, gift shop, laundry,and other duties when requested.


  • Maintaining first aid and CPR certificates. (will do onsite)
  • Pass drug screening test required by Coast Guard Regulations for Drug and Alcohol Safety. Random drug testing will occur throughout the season.
  • Background Check
  • Must be able to stand/walk for long periods without breaks.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and move up to 35lbs.
  • Must have great time management skills.
  • Must be a team player, able to work and live with your coworkers.
