Diver I - Dive Maintenance

Position Summary:

Job duties of the Georgia Aquarium Diver I, Dive Maintenance shall be twofold: Working and Scientific. First, the diver will assume a role of working diver under the regulations for commercial diving as outline by OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Subpart T. Commercial-oriented diving tasks shall include, but not be limited to deployment, moving and retrieving of heavy objects by using heavy hand or power tools, performing daily husbandry including the inspection, maintenance and repair of aquarium exhibits, the application and repair of underwater coatings and liners, and other tasks NOT exempt from OSHA’s commercial diving regulations. These tasks will include, but not be limited to, those of an observer and data gatherer. Examples include measuring of items, collection of samples, monitoring, surveying, documenting and identification. If tools are used, they will be small and light in nature. In addition, the Diver I, Dive Maintenance, shall be required to work with a diverse team of divers in the implementation of dive safety procedures and guidelines ensuring safety at the facility and off-site.

 

Responsibilities:

1. Hone skills learned as an Apprentice
2. Meets all applicable requirements as outlined in Georgia Aquarium’s Diving Operations and Procedures
3. Adheres to dive safety policies and
4. Maintains, inspects, and repairs dive equipment ensuring all is within the proper operating parameters to provide a safe working environment for the
5. Maintain preventative maintenance on breathable air systems while maintaining precise
6. Performs working dives in support of the program mission on a regular
7. Takes an active role in the aquarium’s exhibit maintenance and repair program, which will include leak detection and repair via applied injection techniques and underwater acrylic restoration
8. Assists Zoological Operations and Life Support Systems staff in the repairs and modifications of the LSS
9. Assists with inventory of all related diving equipment and
10. Maintains the highest standards of work area cleanliness at all
11. Interfaces effectively with other departments to maintain the highest standards of
12. As needed, interacts on behalf of Georgia Aquarium, with guests, media, public,
13. Performs other duties as workload
14. Effectively expresses ideas verbally and non-verbally and actively listen to individuals and
15. Expresses ideas clearly and concisely in written form using letters, reports, and other

 

Qualification:

1. High School Degree required
2. Hold current First Aid and Adult CPR, and Oxygen Provider certification or the ability to obtain
3. Have a minimum of one (1) years’ experience in working and/or aquarium-related
4. Hold current dive certification(s) from a nationally recognized agency or agencies, the level of Advanced Open Water and/or Rescue at the
5. Additional diving related certification(s), e. Dry Suit, Dive Master, Open Water Instructor, etc., and additional training/experience in underwater maintenance and repair is a plus.
6. Tech certifications in ScubaPro
7. Hold a valid driver’s
8. Be proficient with Microsoft Office
9. Pass Georgia Aquarium’s Written Dive Knowledge Exam (minimum score of 80%).
10. Pass Georgia Aquarium’s Dive Physical.
11. Pass Georgia Aquarium’s Swim
