The National Reception and Placement (R&P) Housing Specialist primarily provides technical assistance, training and support to local offices and national stakeholders regarding the provision of safe, sanitary, and affordable housing for refugee clients, with a particular focus on the initial housing provided through the R&P program period. The Specialist will travel to branches and/or co-develop trainings to demonstrate effective approaches to introducing refugee housing to landlords and approaches for securing landlord partnership. They will also assist in furnishing a residence for refugees' arrival.

This position is expected to function effectively with moderate supervision while following program guidelines given in procedures, along with agency, federal, and state regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and disseminate tools, training resources, and technical assistance materials regarding refugee housing;
  • Train, coordinate, and facilitate quarterly Housing Communities of Practice (COPs), which will serve as a major hub of training and cross-communication for respective branch staff managing refugee housing;
  • Provide on-going guidance to leadership and respective branch staff on best practices for securing and maintaining quality housing that meets federal and local housing standards, including funder compliance requirements in the R&P program;
  • Travel to branches and/or co-develop trainings to demonstrate effective approaches to introducing refugee housing to landlords and approaches for securing landlord partnership;
  • Assist in furnishing a residence for refugees' arrival;
  • Work closely with affiliate staff to gather information and feedback to improve housing outcomes;
  • Identify national and local partnerships to support the housing and furnishing needs of refugees;
  • Ensure affiliate compliance with R&P requirements for housing, housing setup and supplies;
  • Serve as lead in identifying and developing measurements related to housing safety, affordability, and appropriateness, in order to accurately track and report on refugee housing outcomes;
  • Actively seek out opportunities to present information about refugee housing at locations such as conferences, universities, community-based organizations, etc.;
  • Participate and represent Bethany in external meetings such as: Refugee Council USA, the Refugee Welcome Collective national housing working group, inter-agency government groups, specially assigned projects with UNHCR/NGO/IGO orcongressional topical briefings, upon request or invitation;
  • Collaborate with team members to revise refugee housing tools, and methodologies as required;
  • Develop and maintain expertise in national housing issues, and serve as the primary contact in these areas;
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with landlords (local and national), housing authority, and other stakeholders related to refugee housing;
  • Assist with logistics for a national level conference;
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s level degree in Human Services, Social Work, or related field of study from an accredited college;
  • At least two (2) years of experience working in a similar role; preferably in logistics, post-arrival, and/or housing;
  • Strong understanding of national housing issues and challenges;
  • Ability to think innovatively and creatively about refugee housing solutions;
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills;
  • Prior experience building partnerships with community stakeholders a plus;
  • Ability to work well with others and be a team player;
  • Must have an ability to work flexible work hours to include some evenings and weekends;,
  • Must have a demonstrated passion for customer service and highly organized;
  • Must possess a strong attention to detail with exception problem solving and analytical skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills;
  • Exercise a high level of confidentiality;
  • Work well under pressure and adaptable to change;
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, SharePoint, and HRIS systems (UltiPro preferred);
  • Highly motivated and self-managed;
  • Must be highly organized with exceptional multi-tasking abilities and skills;
  • Must have an ability to work flexible work hours to include some evenings and weekends;
  • Must be reliable with time sensitive deadlines and tasks;
  • Knowledge of state, community and agency resources;
  • Exhibit integrity and good moral character;
  • Possess the relevant experience and/or qualifications;
  • Be properly trained and licensed, as necessary;
  • Computer skills sufficient to perform essential functions including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must be 21 years old with a valid driver’s license with at least 3 years driving experience in the U.S. to operate a vehicle on behalf of Bethany. Must also pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check and maintain a reliable vehicle with proof of adequate insurance coverage.
  • Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries;
  • Subscription to and integration of the agency Statement of Faith and Mission Statement.
Salary disclosure for residents of Colorado, Washington, California, Hawaii, Rhode Island, & New York: ($41,500-$46,000) base rate plus a 1-25% differential.*
