Animal Keeper/Education Coordinator

Lubee Bat Conservancy is seeking a knowledgeable, energetic, outgoing, and responsible Animal Keeper/Education Coordinator. This role works closely with the Director, Operations and Programs Manager, and Animal Care Manager to care for Lubee’s animal collection as well as developing education programs and presentations, assisting with public relations, public speaking, and assisting with the planning and running of public events and outreaches.

This position supports Lubee Bat Conservancy’s mission to save bats and their habitats through conservation, education, and awareness.


The responsibilities and duties of the individual include, but are not limited to:

  • The maintenance and observation of the health, feeding, and care of a variety of species including bats and reptiles.
  • Assist in veterinary procedures, including providing daily medications, animal restraint, and handling.
  • Assist in general grounds maintenance.
  • Give private tours.
  • Attend and present at Outreaches and Events.
  • Design and develop new curriculums for Pre-K through 12th Grade.
  • Develop and implement materials & presentations for a variety of age groups ranging from Pre-K to professionals.
  • Assist with and present at the yearly Florida Bat Festival held in October which is attended by over 5000 guests.
  • Social Media hosting of “Lubee Lives” for Instagram and Facebook.


  • Bachelor’s degree in biology/animal science/education, AS in zoo animal technology and at least six months of paid experience working with animals, or related field or equivalent training/experience preferred.
  • 1+ years animal experience (paid or unpaid).
  • Can work independently and as part of a team.
  • Possess great organizational skills.
  • Able to communicate well through written and verbal means with individuals of all ages and abilities.
  • Possess a very outgoing personality and enjoys speaking and engaging with all age groups.
  • Able to multitask effectively and efficiently.
  • Able to accept and implement constructive feedback in a professional manner.
  • Has a solid understanding of mammal/reptile biology.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Canva, Adobe Photoshop and any other pertinent programs.   
  • Possess leadership qualities with the potential to advance within the organization.
  • Display a willingness to work outdoors in all types of weather (heat, humidity, rainy, cold…)
  • Is physically able to work in an active outdoor environment and complete the tasks required for this position including bending and stooping.
  • Physically able to lift 50lbs and can remain on their feet for long periods of time.
  • The ability and confidence to use small power tools.
  • A working reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license. There is no public transportation to Lubee.
  • Applicant must provide proof of an up-to-date negative TB test, tetanus vaccination, and proof of the Covid 19 vaccine. Rabies vaccination will be required within 1 month of start date, if not already vaccinated. 

Work Schedule:

  • A full 40- hour work week, working 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM for 5 days a week. Each staff member is assigned 2 consecutive days off per week, this position has Monday/Tuesday off.
  • The position involves working weekends and holidays.
  • Overtime opportunities for special events including Bat Appreciation Day in April and Lubee’s Annual Bat Festival in October.

  • Raise at end of 90 working day probationary period
  • Minimum 3% annual raise
  • Vacation Time: 10 days per year (accrued bi-weekly)
  • Sick Time: 6 days per year (accrued bi-weekly)
  • Holiday pay for 10 holidays per year (regardless of scheduling)
  • Paid thirty-minute lunch break daily.
