MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN   FULL TIME  $21.00 PER HOUR

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

The mission of the Maritime Aquarium is to inspire people of all ages to appreciate the Long Island Sound, its ecosystem and the global environment through living exhibits, marine science and environmental education. For 35 years, the Aquarium has played a significant role in shaping the landscape of Norwalk and the region. The second largest family attraction in Connecticut, and 50 miles from New York City, the Aquarium hosts nearly 450,000 guests annually. Its primary exhibits take guests on a voyage from the shallow salt marshes and estuaries to the depths of the Long Island Sound and the ocean beyond, culminating with habitats for sharks and harbor seals. Altogether, the Aquarium is home to more than 7,000 animals and 310 species in 75 exhibits. A new 4D Theater offers a unique sensory film experience for guests. Its education programs introduce approximately 80,000 students, campers and scouts to marine and STEM education. The Aquarium is recognized as a top aquarium in the nation, and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. It is an active participant in the local and regional community. The strength of the Aquarium is its 65 full-time staff, and part-time and seasonal staff, in addition to our volunteers.

 POSITION OVERVIEW  

The Maintenance Technician ensures the reliable and safe operation of all Maritime Aquarium facilities’ systems. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Two years of equivalent experience in building maintenance for similar facility 
  • Able to work at least one weekend day and be available by phone 
  • Able to lift/move up to 75 pounds, push 150 pounds 
  • Able to climb ladders, move trash containers; remove snow and other bulky/heavy items 
  • Able to move quickly and easily to all areas of the facility and its grounds 
  • Able to report to work on an as-needed or emergency basis 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Conducts daily checks of the interior and exterior of all buildings, including graphics on videos, AHU units, life support filters 
  • Maintains all motors, AHU units, pumps and filters running life support system in excellent running condition 
  • Performs daily preventative maintenance on all equipment 
  • Ensures interior and exterior building repairs are completed in a timely and efficient manner 
  • Provides painting, landscaping, grass cutting and snow removal services as necessary 
  • Checks condensing tower and chillers for AC, runs emergency generator once a month 
  • Provides day-to-day maintenance support for the facility, such as, but not limited to:  changing light bulbs, arranging classrooms for special events and any as-needed assistance to staff 
  • Serves as member of the Safety Committee
