Dive Safety Technician

This is an eleven-month position with a maximum of 32 hours per week. It is classified as temporary/part-time and does not include state benefits.

This position will provide support to the NCA PKS dive program under the supervision of the Dive Safety Officer & Assistant DSO.  Primary responsibilities will include dive and supervisory support of staff and volunteer dive operations, ensure dive operation compliance with NCA PKS Dive Program Standard Operating Procedures (OSHA/AAUS/Recreational), daily educational presentations, volunteer morale building, habitat maintenance, scientific diving, animal husbandry observations, and record keeping/data entry. 

Other routine responsibilities will include but are not limited to, providing surface support, tending divers, computer data entry, assisting with rescue and out of air emergency drills, air fill station operation, daily dive locker area cleaning, and laundry.

Additional assignments may include leading guest dives, assisting scientific diving program (previous AAUS training and experience a plus), general equipment maintenance, and annual visual cylinder inspections.

The employee must be able to routinely dive up to 4 times daily, available to work weekends, holidays, and some evenings, be comfortable making timely decisions and working independently in the absence of direct supervision, pass mandatory NCA diver medical assessment for diving, pass mandatory swim test (400 yard swim in 12 minutes, 10 minute treading water, 25 yard swim underwater on one breath, and a 25 yard rescue tow of a passive swimmer), pass mandatory scuba diving skill assessments, lift and carry 75 lbs.

Experience Required

High School or General Educational Development (GED) and one year of experience as related to knowledge, skills, and abilities in area assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification as a Rescue Diver from a nationally recognized organization or member of the Recreational SCUBA Training Council (RSTC). Divemaster or Divemaster in Training is preferred.

Salary

$ 17.00 per hour
