This is an hourly 15-week position; hours may vary per week. It is classified as temporary/part-time and does not include state benefits.

Education interns are responsible for presenting a variety of daily education programs for Aquarium visitors. This position will present programs about North Carolina’s animals and their environment, assist with maintenance and implementation of our Discovery Classroom, help with summer events, and educate at the touch pool habitat to enhance engagement with Aquarium visitors. Education interns will be responsible for answering visitor inquiries and using electronic communication systems. Education interns will have the opportunity to create their own unique education program and Discovery Classroom theme during their internship. Throughout their internship, interns will learn handling and basic care of a variety of animal ambassadors. This position will be on a set schedule that will require work on weekends, holidays, and possibly some evenings.

Experience Required

Education and/or experience in the performance of a variety of manual tasks that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to one year of experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Recent graduate or currently pursuing a 4-year degree in education, marine biology, biology, parks and recreation, environmental studies, or related field. Prior animal handling and public speaking experience preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Interest in presenting public programs. Ability to work as a supportive team player. Strong interest in working with live animals, especially reptiles. Knowledge of NC coastal species and resources.

Salary

$ 15.00 per hour
