Junior Safety Officer

  • The water is your office view. This is a marine-based position, and the client requires the JSO to be on-site (dredge-based) throughout the shift.
  • 17 paid weeks off a year. The schedule is two weeks on and 1 one week off, known as the 14/7 schedule. During your routinely scheduled week off, you will receive your predetermined compensation. We are transparent; once we provide an offer of employment, your compensation will be explained in detail in the pre-offer letter.

The Junior Safety Officer position is tailored for individuals who have been committed to land or marine construction and have assisted with safety functions. These functions may include toolbox meetings, safety stand-downs, and promoting safety awareness. This position offers on-the-job training opportunities with career advancement.
  • Upholds the Company’s commitment to an injury-free workplace; leads and models safe work practices
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations as well as all company policies and procedures
  • Works safely around machinery; observes and instructs others in proper equipment use; uses/wears all required PPE
  • Ensures team members are provided a safe work environment and are knowledgeable of safe work practices and policies
  • Assists in conducting risk assessments for dredging operations, identifying potential safety risks, and recommending corrective actions to mitigate these risks
  • Assists in providing safety training to dredging personnel, including new hires and subcontractors, on proper safety procedures, equipment operation, and emergency response protocols
  • Maintains accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and near misses. Ensures that all required safety documentation is up-to-date and accessible
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant safety regulations, including OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and USACE standards andcompany safety policies
  • Participates in safety meetings with dredging crews to discuss safety concerns, review incident reports, and reinforce safety procedures
  • Participates in emergency drills and coordinates response efforts in the event of accidents or incidents
  • Facilitates open communication between management, supervisors, and workers regarding safety issues. Encourages reporting of safety concerns and actively addresses any issues that arise.
  • Ensures that appropriate safety equipment, such as personal protective equipment (PPE), is available and properly used by all personnel involved in dredging activities
  • Participates in safety audits and reviews to identify areas for improvement in safety procedures, equipment and training program
  • Assists in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations

  • Minimum requirements are 5 consecutive years of land or marine-based construction. This may include internships, co-op experiences, or entry-level occupational health and safety positions.
  • OSHA 30 is required or must be obtained upon hire
  • Ability to identify safety hazards, analyze risks, and develop practical solutions to mitigate safety risks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication. Ability to communicate safety procedures, conduct training sessions and foster a safety culture among dredging personnel
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Word, OneDrive, ability to create MS Excel spreadsheets and data reports
  • Self-Starter and highly motivated
  • Detail-oriented and ability to correctly and promptly complete inspections and reports and ensure compliance with safety regulations
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position as outlined in the Functional Job Description
  • Must be able to successfully pass all pre-employment screening (drug test, fit test) in addition to random drug and alcohol testing
  • Valid Drivers License with clean driving record
