Paid Hoof Stock Intern

Candidates will gain valuable experience working alongside keepers with a variety of endangered African hoof stock including zebra, several antelope species, and giraffe. Work ranges from physical tasks associated with feeding and cleaning to more analytical tasks of record keeping and communication. Intern is also expected to conduct visitor tours twice daily or as needed. 32-hour work week which could include weekends and holidays.

Interns will have opportunities to observe training, medical procedures, animal moves and more.

Experience Required

• Prior internship experience is helpful but not required in a zoological setting. • Strong work ethic, interest in animal care, husbandry, and conservation. • Capable of accurately following written and verbal directions, policies, and protocols. • Ability to work alone in a remote area as well as part of a team. • Comfortable working outdoors in physically demanding and adverse conditions • Good physical condition; able to lift 50 lbs. and move a minimum of 120 lbs. • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Interns will be driving a stick shift vehicle. • Ability and confidence to speak publicly.

Further Comments

This internship starts in August and last for 4 months. Possible extension up to 6 months.

B Bryan Preserve is in a small coastal town about 3.5 hours North of San Francisco on the Pacific Coast. Located on 110 acres you will get experience on managing large breeding herds as well as a tower of bull giraffe.

Salary

$100 per week Stipend plus lodging in 2 bedroom apt with a roomate
