Animal Nutrition Coordinator

The Animal Nutrition Center, a department within The Department of Animal Health, is a centralized food preparation location that provides for the nutrition needs of the Walt Disney World live animal collection! Our mission is to:

  • Deliver steadfast excellence in animal care & welfare through outstanding animal nutrition.

  • Provide the highest quality of animal nutrition as part of the Animal, Science, and Environment animal wellness program.

  • Encourage guests to take conservation action by sharing information about the science of animal nutrition.

As an Animal Nutrition Coordinator, you will assist in the day-to-day operation of the ANC including fielding animal area requests, food prep questions, and performing the same duties as other Cast Members in the location when needed.

You will interface closely with all roles within the department including Animal Nutritionists, Zoological Managers, Data Clerk Specialist, Lab, and Nutrition Assistants to successfully carry out the ASE Mission and Vision.

You will be responsible for maintaining a cohesive, efficient work environment in the Food Prep area and a culture of Cast and Food Safety as outlined in the Standard Operating Guidelines of the Animal Nutrition Center.

You will have a practical understanding of basic nutrition and how it applies to animal health and welfare, working knowledge of computer software, general knowledge of USDA Food Safety guidelines, and HACCP processes.

The Animal Nutrition Center is a 7 day a week operation typically operating between the hours of 5 am-3:30 pm, however extended hours may apply.

This position will report to the ANC Zoological managers.

This is a Full-Time hourly role.

What You Will Do

  • Coordinate daily operations of food prep kitchen including covering phone and walk in requests

  • Follow food prep instructions to prepare accurate diets and package items according to prep sheets

  • Adhere to safety guidelines and maintain sanitary conditions as outlined in the ANC SOG, communicating inventory changes or needs and maintaining accurate receipt, storage, rotation, and labeling of all food items

  • Ensure facilities and all equipment are kept in a safe and orderly manner

  • Interact with Animal Husbandry, Maintenance, Horticulture, Education, and other partnering departments

  • Provide nutritional information and conservation messages through Guest and Cast interactions and magical moments

  • Use forklift or pallet jack

  • Operate a company vehicle, including a 14-foot box truck, under inclement weather, including during minimal lighting across property

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Practical understanding of basic nutrition concepts and how they apply to animal health and welfare

  • Knowledge of accurate food safety and how this impacts diet quality

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and team lift approximately 75 pounds, and move 200-pound carts throughout the day

  • Experience working in a team environment coordinating team operation

  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and personal mode of transportation to travel to and from the workplace and to behind-the-scenes work locations

  • Full availability for any shift, seven (7) days per week, including weekends and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and use of a variety of food preparation equipment

  • Ability to portion food items using standard weights and measurements (U.S. and metric)

  • Facilitate guest interactions

  • Computer proficiency with Word and Excel

  • Knowledge of SAP, NALA, and COUPA software or similar ordering systems

  • Knowledge of Zoo Diets Navigator and ZIMS software or similar animal diet programs

Education

  • 3+ years of college education and/or experience in the field of diet prep, animal care, food industry, or laboratory experience is required
