Horticulture Irrigation Technician

The Horticulture Irrigation Technician is responsible for the daily operations of the irrigation department that includes all irrigation on zoo grounds and greenhouses. Duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining, repairing, upgrading existing systems, and designing new systems in conjunction with the Horticulture Manager.

Essential Functions

Maintenance of Zoo irrigation systems.

Repairing damage to Zoo irrigation systems.

Designing and/or upgrading systems as needed for new plantings, exhibits, animal welfare, etc.

Daily updates to Horticulture Manager about progress, completion, or new work orders.

Point of contact for Irrigation tasks.

Maintains inventory of tools and supplies.

Complies with company safety policy.

Ensures a positive guest experience by communicating with guests in a professional and courteous manner.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to hot, cold, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, and vibrations. The noise level in the work environment can be moderately loud when on Zoo grounds. The employee may be required to be near animals.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, sit, crawl, and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work 

This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position.

Shifts: Sunday - Thursday OR Tuesday - Saturday

Requirements

Minimum of 2 years of experience working with irrigation systems

Valid Driver’s License

Proof of Current Auto Insurance

Must have a clean driving record

Must be able to pass Drug Screening

Must pass a Background Screening

Preferred Requirements 

Rainbird Training

CIT and/or CID Certification

Compensation

$17.00 per hour
