Full-Time Trainer/Keeper Positions

Natural Encounters, Inc., has full-time Trainer positions available for motivated, creative, and high energy individuals who want to grow professionally with a world renown animal training and educational facility.

Natural Encounters, Inc., is an internationally known company specializing in animal training and educational program production and presentation. Our work is divided between producing and presenting educational, free-flight bird programs and consulting at zoological facilities around the world setting up behavior management programs and teaching mammal keepers the art and science of behavior change principals. With multiple training projects and bird shows in production now, we have immediate openings for expert trainers who know the science and have the skill to train a wide variety of animals found in zoological facilities.

Job Duties include:

  • Participate in enclosure husbandry and training of animals at the NEI Training and Education Center in Winter Haven, Florida
  • Communicating to supervisors and curator any concerns about animal health and welfare
  • Preparing and delivering diets for animals
  • Maintain a clean and healthy environment for the animals in the collection set forth by AZA/USDA
  • Assisting veterinarian and assistants during health exams and procedures
  • Assist in the design and development of educational programs
  • Potential to participate in educational program presentations
  • Other duties as assigned by management staff

Qualifications:

  • A good working knowledge of scientific behavior-change principals
  • Observable skills in training a wide variety of animals
  • Knowledge of natural history and species-specific behaviors of a wide variety of animals in zoological facilities
  • Excellent observational skills and sensitivity to animal behavior
  • Strong communication skills and ability to create trusting relationships with team members
  • Strong team skills and ability to adjust to new team culture based on positive communications and open feedback
  • Flexibility in schedule and ability to travel on short notice for extended periods of time
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in stressful situations
  • Ability to follow directions and accept constructive criticism

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2-5 years of animal training/keeping experience in a show and/or exhibit animal environment

Starting at $17 per hour, with potential for adjustment based on experience, or negotiable for candidates demonstrating exceptional qualifications.
