Seasonal Animal Behavior/Ambassador - John Ball Zoo (Grand Rapids, MI)

This position will assist the Animal Behavior and Ambassador teams with daily husbandry of ambassador animals and administrative tasks related to the management of the Zoo’s behavioral husbandry programs. Daily tasks will vary based on the teams’ needs but may include cleaning animal spaces and supplies; preparing animal diets; assisting with documentation and follow up conversations related to animal enrichment and training; researching animal behavior-related topics; inputting and summarizing data.   

Pay rate: 11.50 per hour

PHYSICAL DEMANDS  

• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions 
• Must be able to work around animals, animal dander, and animal feed 
• Must be able to stand, sit, bend, and crouch; must be able to stand for 3+ hours at one time; must be able to sit at a computer for 3+ hours at a time 
• Must be able to lift 50lbs 

WHAT WE REQUIRE 

• Must be 18+ in order to apply
• Must be able to work 40 hours per week from mid-May to end of November 

Experience Required

Must have experience caring for animals (beyond personal pets)  Must have experience working with Google and Microsoft Suite  Must be able to work independently and as a team  Must have strong written and verbal communication skills  Experience with Video and Audio Pad, Adobe Video Editing, or similar software preferred  Experience with animal training and/or animal enrichment preferred  Experience researching information preferred
